Student Blog Post : Meaghan Campbell

VMS Student Meaghan Campbell writes about her experience with the studio before she leaves for the University of Miami in the fall.  Thank you Meaghan, and best of luck in your first year!

Every year around this time a new class of students goes off the college.  In the past it had been friends, family or neighbors; but now it is my turn.  I happen to be moving all the way down to the southern tip of Florida to pursue the dream I have had since I was old enough to dream: a career in music.  I am going to be majoring in Music Business with a minor in Creative American Music (songwriting).  This program is very rigorous, and very few people get into it every year.  When I ask myself how I became such a developed musician at such a young age, and why I am where I am today, the only answer is Vaughan Music Studios.  I always loved music, but it wasn’t until I started working with Cindy Vaughan that music started becoming a possible career choice instead of just a dream.  After a few months of lessons, Cindy encouraged me to start writing songs.  She also set up songwriting critique sessions for me with Rob Seals, an amazing songwriting coach in L.A. From there, with the help of Cindy and Rob, my songwriting went nowhere but up.  I also started recording my music and in my sophomore year, even recorded an entire EP.  By that time, I was performing at open mics around Columbus and even getting a few gigs here and there.  During my junior year my guitar and I started traveling to Nashville to start making connections with musicians and music industry professionals.  When the new VMS studio was built, I took a pro-tools class with Mark Abrams.  That inspired me to get my own version of pro-tools and with Marks help, record an EP on my own to raise money for a music charity in my senior year.  This summer I have started interning at the front desk so I can start to learn how a music studio is really run.  Through all of that, I continued to grow my voice in weekly voice lessons with Cindy.  Before I started at VMS, I could barely play 4 cover songs on the guitar.  Now I have a whole repertoire of original songs, recordings, a developed voice, many connections in the music industry, performing experience, and most importantly, I have confidence that a career in music is possible for me.  Because of all my hard work, and the hard work of the staff at Vaughan Music Studios, I know I am ready to take on the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. Thank you Cindy, Mark, and everyone else at VMS for believing in me.
