When did you first start playing music? Tell us a bit about your background and education in music!
I developed a passion for music at a very early age. I remember sitting on the piano bench with my grandmother who played Scott Joplin rags and jazz tunes. I immediately fell in love with jazz and especially loved Louis Armstrong. I knew at age 5 I wanted to be a music teacher. In high school, I sang in choir, had lead roles in musicals and played flute/piccolo in band. I graduated from Capital University with a Bachelors of Music Education degree with a voice emphasis and from OSU with a Masters of Arts in Music Education with an emphasis in Choral Music. Recently retired from Hilliard Bradley HS, I am currently serving as Music Director at Grace Lutheran Church in Westerville.
Who is your favorite musician?
I have many but at the moment it is Paul McCartney. I was too little when the Beatles came on the scene. I found their music when I was a teenager who grew up in the 70's with awful disco music.
There are so many entertainers who happen to play/sing music. He has stood the test of time because he is a musician. At 70 some years old he still gives 2 1/2 hour concerts as a musician who has learned to be an entertainer.
What was the first piece of music you ever purchased?
With my own money I purchased a Beatles album (yes vinyl) and embarrasingly David Cassidy singing in the Partridge Family.
What are some of your hobbies and non-work activities?
I enjoy trips with my family. I am also developing an interest of late with refinishing furniture.
Welcome Lora!
